A New Perspective on Aging
Senior citizens aren’t what they used to be! It’s certain that today’s seniors exercise more, live longer and just plain do more than any generation of seniors before them. Today’s seniors are eschewing retirement and continuing to stay engaged and active participants in society. Many are still in the work force or stay on the payroll as part-time consultants, board members or freelance workers. Taking a vacation means cruising to Alaska, Europe and beyond.
Learning has become a lifelong process as retired seniors are finding time after years of working and raising a family, to finally go back to school, take up golf for the first time or learn to play the piano. Seniors are logging onto the Internet faster than any other age group. And finally, seniors are reaping the benefits of healthier living through better diets, weight training, tai chi, yoga and other new forms of exercise to add more confidence, energy, mobility, and balance to their life. The Senior Expo will showcase the best in senior living by introducing a whole new world of adventure, fitness, and learning for 50+ adults.
And finally, the Senior Expo is not just for retirees wanting to learn more about what is available from mature market providers. Hampton Roads is faced with an unprecedented flood of new “young” seniors as babyboomers head into their retirement years. It is by far the fastest growing segment of our population. Although most boomers haven’t thought of themselves as seniors yet, many are now caregivers faced with taking care of Mom and Dad or other elderly relatives by helping them to make tough decisions about financial and estate planning, downsizing to new “senior” housing, or finding helpful services to get through unexpected health problems. Whether it’s to choose the right senior facility for a parent, helping them through serious illness or organizing their important documents, the Senior Expo will benefit both generations to help themselves and each other with a wealth of valuable information for all concerned.
